If you have been living with Middle of Nowhere on repeat, Kacey Musgraves just handed you the next chapter. Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes picks up the solitude and soft-focus contentment of the first volume and leans hard into the music that ties Texas and Mexico together: shared rhythms, bilingual storytelling, and the kind of warm-night feeling that makes a road trip playlist feel like a place.
Across sixteen songs, Kacey moves from the instant classic “Denim on Denim” into four tracks sung entirely in Spanish, including a new version of “Uncertain, TX” featuring Intocable. That choice is not a gimmick. It is a love letter to two places close to her heart, bound by generations of music, culture, and tradition. You get Pretty Horses and Weekend In Texas on one side of the mood, then Mi Tesoro, Rodeo, and a live “Tú Solo Tú” with Mariachi Oro De América that sounds like it was caught under string lights in Mexico City.
Here at The Poet’s Vault in Charlotte, that mix lands especially well. Customers who came in for Golden Hour or Star-Crossed keep asking what she is doing next, and this record answers with something more rooted and playful at the same time. There is a Spanish take on All My Exes (yes, that one), a cover of “Before The Next Teardrop Falls,” and enough twang-and-groove friction to keep the needle interesting all the way through side B.
We are carrying the Classic Black standard vinyl pressing, priced at $32.99. It is a clean, straightforward package for an album that already feels like it wants to live on a turntable rather than in a streaming queue. Pre-orders are open now, with the street date set for January 15, 2027. Three copies are on the board for the shop right now, and records like this tend to disappear once the release week buzz starts.
If Tex-Mex country, bilingual ballads, or just another great Kacey Musgraves night in are your thing, lock this one in early. Pre-order Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes below, and we will have it ready when it lands.
